Why study in Turkey?

  • More than two hundred universities, public and foundation (private), in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and every region of the country.
  • The Türkiye Scholarships, a government program that can cover tuition, accommodation, health insurance and a monthly allowance, with a Turkish language year.
  • Programs in Turkish or in English: many universities teach some or all of their programs in English, especially in engineering, business and medicine.
  • Direct admission with the Moroccan baccalaureate in many universities, sometimes with an entrance exam (YÖS) or an SAT score.
  • Lower tuition and living costs than in Western Europe, especially in public universities.
  • A familiar environment: direct flights from Morocco, a large international student community and a culture close to home.

The Turkish higher education system

Degrees follow the European structure, with a preparatory language year before programs taught in Turkish or in English when needed.

Associate degree

Two years after the baccalaureate (önlisans), in a vocational school attached to a university.

Bachelor's degree

Four years (lisans); five for dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, six for medicine.

Master's degree

Two years (yüksek lisans) after the bachelor's degree, with or without a thesis.

Preparatory language year

A year of Turkish (TÖMER) or English before the program, for students who do not yet have the required level.

Typical admission steps from Morocco

Each university runs its own international admission, with its own calendar; the Türkiye Scholarships have a single application at the start of the year.

1

Choose your route

Direct application to the universities of your choice, an entrance exam (YÖS) or SAT where required, or the Türkiye Scholarships, which include a study place.

2

Prepare your file

Baccalaureate and transcripts with translations, passport, motivation letter, language certificate if you have one, and the exam scores the university asks for.

3

Acceptance letter

Once accepted, confirm your place and pay the tuition deposit if requested, to receive the acceptance letter needed for the visa.

4

Visa and residence permit

Apply for a student visa at the Turkish embassy or consulate, then for a student residence permit online after arrival, and register at the university.

Language requirements

For programs taught in Turkish, universities ask for a Turkish certificate, usually at C1 level from a TÖMER centre, or enrol you in a preparatory year first. For programs taught in English, an IELTS or TOEFL score is often requested, or the university's own proficiency exam, and ProTrain prepares students for both tests.

Student visa overview

With the acceptance letter, students apply for a student visa at the Turkish embassy or consulate, with proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance. After arrival, they apply online for a student residence permit within the first month and attend an appointment with the migration office. Türkiye Scholarships holders follow the same steps with the documents provided by the program.

Studying in Turkey: your questions

Answers to the questions Moroccan students and parents ask us about Turkey.

Not necessarily. Many universities, especially foundation universities in Istanbul and Ankara, teach some or all of their programs in English, and public universities also offer English-taught programs in fields such as engineering, business and medicine. For Turkish-taught programs, universities ask for a Turkish certificate, usually C1, or send you to a preparatory year at a TÖMER centre first. Türkiye Scholarships holders receive a year of Turkish before their program.

A program of the Turkish government open to Moroccan students at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level. It includes a study place in a Turkish university and can cover tuition fees, accommodation, health insurance, a monthly allowance, a flight ticket and a year of Turkish language. Applications are made online, usually in January and February, with academic results, a motivation letter and references. It is selective: treat it as a possibility, and prepare direct applications at the same time.

A student visa, applied for at the Turkish embassy or consulate in Morocco with the acceptance letter of the university, your passport, proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance. A tourist entry is not enough to enrol. After arrival, you apply online for a student residence permit within the first month, then attend an appointment with the migration office with your documents and proof of enrolment. The permit is renewed for the duration of your studies.

ProTrain helps you choose between public and foundation universities, Turkish-taught and English-taught programs, and the Türkiye Scholarships or direct applications. We check the admission requirements and calendar of each university, prepare your file and motivation letter, and prepare you for IELTS or TOEFL when needed. We then help you gather the documents for the student visa and the residence permit. Parents are kept informed, and we meet you in Guéliz, Marrakech, or online.
