Why study in Malaysia?

  • Programs taught in English in most private universities and in many public ones, from the first year of bachelor's.
  • International branch campuses: British and Australian universities deliver their own degrees in Malaysia, at a lower cost than on their home campus.
  • A wide range of fields, including engineering, computer science, business, medicine, pharmacy and hospitality.
  • Affordable tuition and living costs compared with Europe or North America, in a modern and safe environment.
  • A multicultural, Muslim-majority country, where halal food and prayer facilities are everywhere.
  • A gateway to Asia: a regional business hub with a growing demand for international graduates.

The Malaysian higher education system

Public universities, private universities and foreign branch campuses, with pathway programs after the baccalaureate.

Foundation or diploma

One to two years after the baccalaureate, as a pathway into a bachelor's degree, mostly in private institutions.

Bachelor's degree

Three to four years, with direct entry after the baccalaureate for many programs.

Master's degree

One to two years after the bachelor's degree, by coursework, by research or mixed.

PhD

A research degree of three years or more after the master's degree.

Typical admission steps from Morocco

Applications are made directly to each institution, which then handles the student pass with the Malaysian authorities.

1

Choose your programs

Compare public universities, private universities and branch campuses, and check that the institution is approved to host international students.

2

Apply to the institution

Baccalaureate, transcripts, passport, English certificate and sometimes an interview. Most institutions have several intakes a year.

3

Visa approval letter

Once you accept the offer, the institution applies for your visa approval letter (VAL) through EMGS, with a medical screening form.

4

Travel and student pass

With the VAL, obtain the entry visa if required, travel, complete the medical check on arrival and receive your student pass through the institution.

Language requirements

Programs taught in English usually ask for an IELTS or TOEFL score, and some institutions accept other tests or run their own placement test. Students below the required level can often start with an intensive English course at the institution. ProTrain prepares students for IELTS and TOEFL in Marrakech.

Student pass overview

International students need a student pass, processed by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) on behalf of the institution. The institution applies for the visa approval letter, then the student travels, completes a medical examination within the first days and receives the student pass, renewed each year of study.

Studying in Malaysia: your questions

Answers to the questions Moroccan students and parents ask us about Malaysia.

Mostly, yes. Private universities and foreign branch campuses teach in English, and many programs of public universities are also offered in English, especially at master's level. Malay is the national language, and a basic course helps in daily life, but it is not required for admission to an English-taught program.

Tuition fees depend a lot on the institution: public universities are generally the most affordable, private universities cost more, and branch campuses of foreign universities sit in between their home-campus fees and local ones. Living costs in Kuala Lumpur and other cities are lower than in Western Europe. Fees change every year, so we build your budget from the current figures of each institution during your consultation.

You do not apply for the student pass yourself: once you accept an offer, the institution submits your application to EMGS, which issues a visa approval letter (VAL) after checking your documents and a pre-arrival medical screening. With the VAL you obtain an entry visa if one is required for Moroccan citizens, travel to Malaysia, complete a medical examination and receive the student pass in your passport. It is valid for one year and renewed by the institution.

ProTrain helps you compare public universities, private universities and branch campuses, check admission requirements and intakes, and prepare your applications. We prepare you for IELTS or TOEFL when your program requires it, then help you gather the documents for the visa approval letter and the medical screening. Parents are kept informed, and we meet you in Guéliz, Marrakech, or online.
