The Chinese higher education system
Degrees are organised in three levels, with programs taught in Chinese or in English.
Bachelor's degree
Usually completed in four years after the baccalaureate.
Master's degree
Generally two to three years after the bachelor's degree, depending on the program.
PhD
A research degree prepared after the master's degree.
Preparatory Chinese year
Often taken before a Chinese-taught program, to reach the language level required.
Typical admission steps from Morocco
Applications are usually made directly to each university, sometimes together with a scholarship application.
Choose your programs
Decide between Chinese-taught and English-taught programs, and shortlist universities.
Prepare your file
Transcripts, passport, study plan, recommendation letters, language certificate and physical examination form if requested.
Admission documents
Once accepted, receive the admission letter and the JW201 or JW202 form from the university.
Visa and residence permit
Apply for the X1 or X2 student visa, then for a residence permit after arrival if you hold an X1 visa.
Language requirements
For programs taught in Chinese, universities usually ask for an HSK certificate. The level required depends on the university and the program. For programs taught in English, an IELTS or TOEFL score is often requested, and ProTrain prepares students for both tests.
Student visa overview
With the admission letter and the JW201 or JW202 form, students apply for an X1 visa for studies longer than 180 days, or an X2 visa for shorter studies. X1 holders then apply for a residence permit after arrival. A physical examination form is often required.

Studying in China: your questions
Answers to the questions Moroccan students and parents ask us about China.
Not necessarily. Many programs are taught in Chinese, but some universities also offer programs taught in English, especially at master's level. For Chinese-taught programs, students often follow a preparatory Chinese language year first and usually need an HSK certificate at the level required by the program.
Yes, scholarships exist, for example the Chinese Government Scholarship, as well as scholarships offered by some local governments and universities. They are selective, and their conditions, deadlines and coverage can change from one year to the next. When planning your budget, treat a scholarship as a possibility rather than a certainty.
Students enrolled for more than 180 days usually apply for an X1 visa, and those enrolled for a shorter period for an X2 visa. The application generally requires the admission letter, the JW201 or JW202 form issued by the university, and often a physical examination form. X1 holders then apply for a residence permit after arrival.
ProTrain helps you compare Chinese-taught and English-taught programs, check admission requirements and prepare your applications. For English-taught programs, we prepare you for IELTS or TOEFL. We then help you gather the visa documents, including the admission letter, the JW201 or JW202 form and the physical examination form. Parents are kept informed, and we meet you in Guéliz, Marrakech, or online.
