Study in Canada from Morocco
Programs in English or French, universities or colleges: we help you choose a province and a program, then build your study permit file, including the Quebec CAQ.
Why study in Canada?
A bilingual country with a wide choice of institutions and program formats.
English and French
French-speaking students can study in French, mainly in Quebec and in some institutions in other provinces such as New Brunswick and Ontario, or choose English-taught programs.
Universities and colleges
Academic degrees in universities, and practical, career-oriented programs in colleges, with paths between the two.
Links with the job market
Many programs include internships or co-op work terms, and graduates may be eligible for a post-graduation work permit.
The Canadian education system
Education is managed by each province, so rules, calendars and costs vary from one province to another.
Bachelor's degree
The first university degree, usually three or four years depending on the province and the program.
Master's and doctorate
Graduate studies after the bachelor's degree: a master's generally takes one to two years, followed by a research doctorate.
Colleges
Colleges and institutes offer diplomas and certificates focused on a trade or a profession, often shorter than a university degree.
Cégeps in Quebec
In Quebec, cégeps offer pre-university and technical programs. Depending on the profile, some international students start there before university.
Typical admission steps from Morocco
Applications are made directly to each institution, and deadlines differ by institution and program.
Choose province and program
Pick a designated learning institution (DLI) and a program that fit your profile and budget.
Letter of acceptance
Apply to the institution and receive your letter of acceptance.
CAQ or attestation letter
For Quebec, obtain the CAQ. For most other provinces, a provincial attestation letter may be required.
Study permit
Apply for the study permit with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Language tests and study permit
Language requirements
For English-taught programs, institutions usually ask for IELTS or TOEFL; some accept other tests. For French-taught programs, in Quebec, New Brunswick and elsewhere, institutions may ask for the TCF, the TEF or their own French test, depending on your previous studies.

Student visa overview
Students apply to IRCC for a study permit with the letter of acceptance, proof of funds for tuition and living costs, and a valid passport; biometrics are generally required. Students going to Quebec must first obtain the Certificat d'acceptation du Québec (CAQ).

Studying in Canada: your questions
Answers to the questions Moroccan students and parents ask us about Canada.
The CAQ, or Certificat d'acceptation du Québec, is a document issued by the Quebec government. You need it if you are admitted to a program in Quebec for a stay longer than six months. It must be obtained before applying for the federal study permit, so it adds a step and some time to the process.
It depends on your goal. Universities award bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees with an academic focus. Colleges, including cégeps in Quebec, offer shorter, practical programs leading to a diploma or certificate and a profession. Some students start in a college and continue at university later. The right choice depends on your grades, budget and career plan.
You must show enough money to pay your first year of tuition, your living costs and your travel. IRCC sets a minimum amount for living costs, and Quebec sets its own amounts for the CAQ. These amounts are updated regularly, so they should always be checked on the official websites before preparing the financial documents.
ProTrain helps you choose a province, an institution and a program that fit your profile, prepare your applications, and get ready for IELTS or TOEFL if you aim for English-taught programs. We then help you organise the CAQ when needed and the study permit file. Parents are kept informed at each step, in our Guéliz office in Marrakech or online.
