Study in Germany from Morocco
Public universities, universities of applied sciences and often low or no tuition fees: we check your admission conditions and build your national visa file.
Why study in Germany?
A recognised education system and, for many programs, an affordable option for Moroccan students.
Low or no tuition at many public universities
Most public universities charge no or low tuition fees for many programs. Some states charge non-EU students, for example Baden-Württemberg.
Two types of universities
Research universities and universities of applied sciences, which focus on practice and internships.
Programs in German and in English
Most bachelor programs are taught in German, while many master programs are also offered in English.
Strong links with industry
Many programs, especially in engineering and applied sciences, include internships and practical projects.
The German higher education system
Degrees follow the European Bachelor and Master structure, offered by two main types of institutions.
Bachelor
The first degree, often completed in three years, sometimes longer depending on the program.
Master
Generally one to two years after the Bachelor, with many programs taught in English.
Universities
Research-oriented institutions offering a wide range of subjects, up to the doctorate.
Universities of applied sciences
Fachhochschulen or Hochschulen, focused on practice, with internships built into many programs.
Typical admission steps from Morocco
Many international applications go through uni-assist, while some universities accept applications directly.
Check your access
Depending on your grades and subjects, the Moroccan baccalaureate may require a Studienkolleg and the Feststellungsprüfung first.
Prove your language level
German proof for German-taught programs, IELTS or TOEFL for English-taught programs.
Apply
Send your application through uni-assist or directly to the university, before the semester deadline.
Blocked account and visa
Once admitted, open a blocked account and apply for the national student visa.
Language requirements
For programs taught in German, universities ask for proof of German level, for example the TestDaF, the DSH or a Goethe-Zertifikat at level C1 or C2, depending on the university and the program. For programs taught in English, an IELTS or TOEFL score is usually required.
ProTrain offers German courses to help you reach the level required and prepare for these tests. For English-taught programs, ProTrain prepares students for IELTS and TOEFL.
Student visa overview
Admitted students apply for a national student visa at the German diplomatic mission. Proof of funds is generally provided through a blocked account (Sperrkonto) holding the amount set by the German authorities. The file also usually includes the admission letter, a valid passport, health insurance and proof of language level.
A language course visa also exists for students who want to learn German in Germany before starting their studies.

Studying in Germany: your questions
Answers to the questions Moroccan students and parents ask us about Germany.
Often, but not always. Most public universities charge no tuition fees for many programs, apart from a semester contribution that covers administrative costs and sometimes a public transport ticket. Some states, such as Baden-Württemberg, charge tuition fees to non-EU students, and private universities set their own fees.
It depends on your grades and the subjects of your baccalaureate. In many cases, the Moroccan baccalaureate does not give direct access to a bachelor program, and students first attend a Studienkolleg, a preparatory course that ends with the Feststellungsprüfung exam. Students who have already completed university studies in Morocco may have other options.
A blocked account, or Sperrkonto, is a German bank account in which students deposit a set amount before the visa application, to prove they can cover their living costs. After arrival, the money is released in monthly instalments. The required amount is set by the German authorities and is updated regularly, so check it before opening the account.
ProTrain helps you check whether your baccalaureate gives direct access or requires a Studienkolleg, choose programs, and prepare your uni-assist or direct applications. We then help you build the national student visa file. For German language tests, we guide you toward appropriate preparation, and for English-taught programs we prepare you for IELTS and TOEFL. We meet you in Guéliz, Marrakech, or online.
