Why study in the United States?

  • A flexible academic system: undergraduate students usually take courses in several fields before declaring a major.
  • A large choice of institutions: public and private universities, liberal arts colleges and community colleges.
  • Teaching in English, a language valued by employers in Morocco and abroad.
  • Campus life: many institutions offer housing, clubs, sports and student services on campus.
  • Scholarships and financial aid offered by some institutions, depending on the profile and the university.

The American higher education system

Studies are divided into undergraduate and graduate levels, with an alternative entry route through community colleges.

Bachelor's degree

The undergraduate degree, usually completed in four years at a university or a college.

Community colleges

Two-year programs leading to an associate degree. Many students then transfer to a university to complete a bachelor's degree.

Graduate studies

Master's degrees, generally one to two years, and PhD programs focused on research.

Studying in the United States: your questions

Answers to the questions Moroccan students and parents ask us about the United States.

Not always. Many American universities have test-optional policies, while others still require or recommend the SAT or ACT. Requirements vary by institution and can change from one year to the next, so check the admission page of each university. A good score can still strengthen an application, especially for merit-based scholarships.

A community college is an American institution offering two-year programs that lead to an associate degree. Tuition is generally lower than at four-year universities, and many students then transfer to a university to complete a bachelor's degree. Transfer conditions depend on the institutions and the state, so the courses should be chosen carefully from the first year.

After admission, your school issues a Form I-20. You then pay the SEVIS fee, complete the online visa application and book an interview at the US Embassy or Consulate in Morocco. At the interview, you present your I-20, proof of financial support and your study plan. Fees and appointment wait times change regularly.

ProTrain helps you choose universities or community colleges that fit your profile and budget, prepare your applications and essays, and get ready for the SAT, TOEFL or GMAT. We then help you build the F-1 visa file and prepare for the consular interview. Parents are kept informed at each step, and we meet you in our Guéliz office in Marrakech or online.
